A little new years gift from Google? It’s probably more appropriate to call it a “curve-ball or stupidity” – than a “gift” lol. Because unfortunately, when you look at the facts, that’s really what it is… For those of you who don’t know, this big change is that Google has announced that it is going to incorporate it’s new “Google +” network MUCH MORE (35% more, that’s the number I’m hearing floated around)  than it ever did before. If you recall earlier this year, when Google still controlled a strong 70% of the search engine market, Google & Bing would grab much of their information from Facebook and Twitter updates, but due to a recent “parting of ways” just this past last year with Google, Twitter is now left out in the cold.

I know this seems like a dramatic push from Google to get their already ever expanding “Google +” network off the ground, and it probably is – but this seems like a real “cheap shot” in my opinion. I know twitter and Google might not have come to an agreement, but come on Google executives, it was never about the money before! Don’t you remember? The reason Google has been so successful is due to their unbelievable ability to somehow “read your mind” and give you that “exact page” you were hoping for – right at the top of the search results page, every time! And their ability isn’t something that came with “buying the right connections,” it came with taking in to account factors that most others companies weren’t looking at, and it really kept companies and people from “cheating” the system.  I really hope we don’t see that happen here. I could see spammer’s flocking to “Google +” to try and capitalize on this current “audible” by Google, but I do think this move by them will be short lived, or they’re in real trouble!

What can you do about it?

Get on Google + right away! And Signup for both a business and a personal account – you can do this by simply creating a Google account or by visiting www.google.com/plus), and start building your network, friends… Just basically do EVERYTHING you did on Facebook already – I know you don’t want to hear that, and it’s a lot of work, but there really is no choice unfortunately) The faster you get on Google + and get actively “blogging / talking” away, the faster you will see an impact in your overall daily search results. Also, don’t forget to create the “business page” (that’s why I said both personally and professionally) you’ll want to Create a Google + Business Page and this can be done by simply clicking the link here https://plus.google.com/pages – and once you get to the “Google + Create a Page” you want to create a business/local business page, obviously choose whichever is applicable… One nice thing about this process though is that Google will usually do a search for your business by your phone number and a majority of the time – and especially if you already have a Google Local/Place Page created – then it will find that company data/info and import it for you. (saves you some time, which is nice!)
